I chose these three as my best pieces of the year because they somewhat followed my proposal guidelines. I did not get as many projects as I would have liked to get done this semester just because I was having a slight creative block for awhile.
With creating the first picture, the acrylic painting, I learned that the way we see things often are too natural to us, so I tried to make my tree as realistic as possible, shape wise. What i would probably change about this picture is the background. I love the sunset, but to me it seems too even in a way, I feel like I could have changed the directions of the colors to make it seem like it was more of a natural sunset, not so forced. The second picture I learned how hard it was to make patterns. I was never really fond of doing patterns just because I usually like to do whatever, because I am definitely a no rhyme-or-reason type of artist. But this piece really helped me to slow down and concentrate on each intricate design. What I would change about this particular piece is I would make it a little more proportional. Some of my designs are a little off-centered, but other than that it is probably one of my favorites all though it only took me a very short time. The third picture I learned how hard it would by drawing only with one eye. Because this piece was my limitation piece, it really made me realize how much my eyes actually focus in while working on a piece. Although one of my eyes were closed, I could still feel myself trying to focus with that eye. What I would change about this is probably the simplicity of it. I would maybe add some color, or something to the background just to add some more character. This year in Art IV I learned more about being an independent artist. I had the freedom to create my own guidelines and focus on what I wanted to better myself on, or experiment with. Overall, I had a really good year in this class. If there were one thing I would change, it would probably to actually have the class in person verses over ITV. But, I believe I still really benefitted from the class and I had fun!

Sometimes in life, we find ourselves limited. Whether it may be mentally or physically, sometimes those limitations can actually help set us free. Our limitations force us to think inside the box, rather than to search from the outside. Limitations are inspiring because you learn to rely on yourself and your own ideas rather than outside influences. " You must first be limited, in order to be limitless!".
The limitation I created for myself was the process of using only one eye to see what I was drawing while my pencil was on the paper. It was difficult to me, because out of habit I am used to focusing on works with both eyes instead of one. It effected my work by making slow down, and actually having to think a little. It was difficult, but it definitely proved to me that you can do anything you set your mind on! I cannot include photos yet because they have not gone through my email. I was commissioned to do this by my supervisor at the lake. This previous summer I had designed posters for kiosks and the walking trail, and she liked my ideas enough to want them put in a coloring book. The theme of the coloring book is the animals you would see at the lake, but with a cartoon type twist to it. Most of the animals have sun glasses, t-shirts, or a hat! I have them doing fun activities, such as fishing and playing beach volleyball. Some of the wildlife I drew for the coloring book would be a Canadian goose, fish, turtles, frogs, raccoons, squirrels, etc.
I couldn't add all the photo's quite yet so once they all come through I will be able to make an additional blog post on the rest of the book! I cannot upload pictures yet because they have not gone through my email.
These shoes were themed as Art, and I didn't really have much of an idea for what i wanted to do. So I painted them in watercolor, and started a mixed flower design with a Henna type style as well in India Ink and a Calligraphy pen. I really like these so far because they are so detailed. I have also almost completed the other shoe that was still in the process, so I will make a new blog post once it is finished! I cannot share pictures at the moment, because they haven't gone through my email. But this pair is themed as Local Flare, and I chose to do a sunset from Lake Tschida. I chose that as my design for this pair because it shows something beautiful about the area I live in, and it also means a lot to me. These shoes were painted in water color, and detailed in India Ink with a Calligraphy pen.
This is the only picture I could get to come through at the moment. I have spray painted them all black, and cut out stencils on the vinyl cutter to spray paint as well. This is my Action Sports themed shoe, and i am going to have silhouettes of skateboarders and skateboarding tricks all along both sides and the top.
For my perspective project, I plan to do a road with some trees or buttes along the sides, and kind of wanted to put a car traveling down the road. I haven't made much progress, because I started a perspective piece and ended up not liking it, so I will be starting the new plan soon.
This piece originally started out as a tattoo design, but the person I was designing it for decided they wanted something else. So I kept the outline, and started to shade it. I decided it would be great practice for value and depth, along with practice on highlights and lowlights.
This piece is not quite finished, so this is just a progress post. The inspirition for this work was that I just wanted to work on a face that day, and once I had an outline of the face, I decided I would make her into a sugar skull lady because those are some of my favorite pieces to create. I plan on putting a darker background to pop out the whiteness i left on her skin for a more "ghostly" look. I used PRISMACOLOR colored pencils on the designs and in the hair as well. over all, I really like it so far.
